Stingray Attack Kills Crocodile Hunter
Steve Irwin, the famous Australian television presenter and environmentalist, died Monday at the age of 44 following a stingray attack.
Irwin was filming off the coast of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef at the time of the attack. Irwin’s Manager, John Stainton, spoke to reporters about the attack and said a stingray attacked killed Irwin, the barb of which struck him directly in the heart.
Irwin is survived by his American wife, Terri Irwin, as well as his eight year old daughter and three year old son.
In a written statement about Monday’s tragedy, Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer expressed his grief over Irwin’s untimely death and called him a wonderful ambassador for Australia, saying he will be “very, very, sadly missed.”
